SUSIE'S BIRTHDAY
I guess it's not over yet, because we're going to my in-law's house for dinner tonight. Pizza! I've been putting off making my cake for no apparent reason, but I'll do that today, too.
But Saturday, friends who were housesitting for our neighbors invited us over to swim in their "borrowed" back yard pool. Zach liked the water, and it cracks me up how rolly-polly he is! We all had a great time and didn't want to get out. But everyone seemed to be worn out because everyone but me took a nap after lunch.
Well, except that Ryan said he had to go buy my birthday present, and sorry, but he wasn't about to wrap it. Okay, fine. But things got a bit mysterious when I saw his dad pull up in his pickup. What in the world is he going to get in a pickup? Kelly called and we postulated about what it could be.
When they got back, Ryan took me out to the truck to see our new mattress! Our old one was sagging pretty bad, and had started to give both of us backaches. Then I tweaked my back swinging Jared around the other day and it just wasn't getting better sleeping on that bed. After one night on my birthday present, I'm cured!!!
Then I did whatever I wanted while all the boys took naps. It was wonderfully quiet and I got some digital scrapbooking done. Oh, and the web site that I belong to sent me a coupon for a free page kit at their store, so I was going nuts trying to choose one out of about 800 kits to buy.
Then I tore the house apart trying to figure out what the boys were going to wear in their photos that night. Then I freaked out that we weren't going to have enough time to go out to dinner before our photo appointment and got everyone up and ready to go. We went to Red Robin and I had a very strange hamburger. It had a mozzarella cheese-stick (circle-shaped, though) grilled peppers and onions and marinara sauce on top, and on ciabatta bread. It wsa interesting and tasted good, but it was definitely strange.
Then we went across the street to the mall and had the boys' portraits taken. Jared did SO GREAT! I wish he were that cooperative when I take his picture. He immediately did everything the photographer said. Like, "Lay on your tummy." He literally belly-flopped on the floor. With me, he covers his eyes when I get out the camera.
I loved the pictures with jared's arm around Zach, but they took two and in one Jared's mouth was wide-open and in the other, Zach's face was all scrunched up. I wanted them both so I could PhotoShop them and switch heads. But alas, that would have cost a fortune, so I got a different one. Click here to see them all.
While we were waiting for our pictures to be printed, we went to a very fun play area in the mall and wore jared out even further. We were surprised that he didn't fall asleep on the way home, but he went to bed immediately when we got home. Then we got out the packages Mom and Sara and Kelly had sent and I opened my presents! Sara made me these cool magnets with temples on them (all of them that mean something to me) and a pretty apron with an S embroidered on it. Kelly sent me a boxed card-making kit. I already used it to make my visiting teachee a card (she got a her wisdom teeth out, poor thing). And Mom sent me the book Eve and the Choice Made in Eden and a splash guard for my Kitchen Aid. Which I was planning to use early to make my birthday cake frosting, but I still haven't made that! I guess I'll be trying it out today.
So that was my birthday! It was really nice and relaxed and made for a very pleasant and memorable weekend.
