RYAN HONORED
On Tuesday, Ryan was awarded a medal for his work in Venturing. That's the Boy Scouts of America group for ages 16-21, and the group he's in charge of in our ward. There really was no program when Ryan was called as Young Men President, and no one had ever heard of Venturing, but Ryan figured out how it worked and how to implement it, and he's obvioulsy been very successful. The same medal was awarded to one of his young men last year, which of course wouldn't have happened without Ryan.
One contributing factor to his being nominated for this award was his initiative and work in designing a CSP to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Venturing. That's Council Shoulder Patch to you and me. It was a fun project. Ryan got all the approvals he needed, came up with the idea, and I drew it on the computer. Some of the details were changed to make it more "stitchable," I guess. Of course, I had no idea what an embroidery machine could stitch and what it couldn't. So I left that to the experts. But yeah, we made that patch! If you can't tell, it shows the AZ desert as well as the beautiful mountains and pines in Arizona. The purple is the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff.
Ryan followed through the production of the patches, and is currently selling them at PowderHorn (a high-adventure training camp he's at) and on Ebay to earn money for the Council.
