ENDEAVOR
Tonight we saw on the news that the orbit of the Space Shuttle Endeavor, docked to the International Space Station, passes right over Boise, and would be flying overhead in ten minutes.
That seemed like a rare opportunity, so we went outside and searched the skies. We didn't know which direction to look, and I hadn't really noted the time, so we weren't too hopeful. But Ryan spotted what looked like a large, fast-moving star. Just to be a pain, it went behind a tree, so we couldn't tell if it had the flashing lights of an aircraft, or if the blinking was caused by the leaves and branches. But when it came out the other side, we saw that it was a steady, solid white light streaking through the night. It was very cool! Its light began to fade, then completely went out as it curved around the Earth. I realized that the astronauts, if they were paying attention, had just seen a sunset.
Pretty neat, huh?
