IT REALLY IS A ZOO!
The reason I called my blog Susie's Zoo, is, of course, a copycat of the Suzy's Zoo characters and books and such. But I thought it fitting because I figured that life with two boys was bound to get a bit crazy.
Well, that has happened. Last week, we went to my niece and nephew's elementary school carnival. We needed to get out of the house and go have some fun. But I wish we'd stayed home! For about 3 minutes, all was well. The boys ran around the school gym looking at everything and stretched their muscles. Then Jared got in line to go in this giant air-blown tunnel shaped like a train. Kids cut in front of him and he had to wait a long time. When he came out, he was happy, but then I asked him if it was fun and he burst into tears. He thought he got to stay in there as long as he wanted, and was heart-broken that they'd kicked him out. Poor Zach wasn't tall enough to go in in the first place.
Then Zach ran in front of the dart board, tried to steal things from the other booths, and grew obsessed with the bowling game. He screamed for the ball that they were using. So we paid two tickets and let him drop the ball near the heavy wooden pins. Obviously nothing happened. He's got quite an arm, but he didn't know exactly what to do in this situation.
So after much fussing, running away from me, and crying, I was about ready to pull my hair out. I decided it was time to go home. That's when Jared lost it. "I don't want to go home!" was yelled many times, accompanied by tears and taking off his coat and throwing it on the floor. I set Zach up on something about my shoulder height so I could put his coat on without him running away again, but he jumped off. I caught him the first time. The second time, he jumped when I was turned to help Jared. When he realized I wasn't going to catch him, he grabbed my hair to slow his fall. Then I was the one crying! I was so embarrassed, but stopping the fall of a 30-pound object with your hair really really hurts.
And it was such a tough outing in general that I cried on the way home, too. I swore I was never going to leave the house again. Of course, I had to take them to church the next day.
Which turned into another example of Susie's Zoo.
