URBAN WILDLIFE
This evening, we drove to Boise to see the river. It's really high from a very wet and snowy winter. We really miss the Green Belt and taking walks on it, so we go back every once-in-a-while.
Parts of the Green Belt have been closed due to flooding. The water level has gone down by about 2 feet since earlier this week, but we got to see the high-water marks.
We found our way to a very large bridge with 4 lanes of busy roadway and a walled-off pedestrian "lane." We were admiring the swirls on the now-submerged sandbar in the river when we heard a big splash. I saw something big out of the corner of my eye and thought, "no way, that fish is HUGE!" But after looking at its shape, I said, "Hey, that's not a fish, that's got to be a beaver!" We were so excited, but it went under the bridge and was lost from view. A moment later, it showed up again, wading across the sandbar, then swimming to a little hollow to groom. Pretty soon, another beaver popped in to join the show. They swam around a bit, perfectly comfortable right in the middle of a busy city. Jared and Zach both saw them and we all thought it was a pretty cool outing.
