LESSON IN PATIENCE
The insurance company doesn't realize I'm a bargain hunter. They really shouldn't doubt that I'd get the best price. But they did. I said that a replacement for my sewing machine would cost $1180, which is what the Viking store told me. Instead of calling a Viking dealer themselves, they went to eBay and found a totally different machine, and gave me the starting price for the auction. They would only authorize $900. Well, by the time they got the paperwork to me, of course the auction had closed. For $1300! Duh, you can't use eBay to set a price on something, especially when the auction hasn't even closed!
I feel like I've had a limb amputated with no sewing machine in the house. I've got clothes to repair and curtains to make! So I've been anxious to get this dispute resolved, and determined to not let the insurance company rip me off.
After a whole month of wondering how this was going to turn out, I was sorting through the piles of voice messages from when we were on our trip and hallelujah! They've authorized my replacement cost! Way back on July 3rd, actually. If only I'd known...
Of course, it's now Saturday evening, so the store is closed and I won't be able to go get my machine until Monday. Apparently, I need a lesson in patience and delayed gratification, 'cause I'm getting one!
