'Cause I'm done with insurance! This is my insurance claim from the Uhaul being stolen last April. I gave them a ginormous list of things that I thought were in the trailer, and they cut me a check for how much that stuff was worth, minus how much it had depreciated (and I'm sure you can imagine how much a 3 year old pair of dress boots had depreciated!) Then I got to go replace everything. I had to turn in the receipts to get the insurance company to pay me full replacement price.
Talk about shop 'til you drop. It was fun at first, but after we'd bought all the toys and fun things, we were tired of shopping and had lots of things left on the list! Not to mention that all the new clothes and jewelry made me not really want or need anything for Christmas! I was hard to shop for this year, I'm sure!
After 6 months of shopping, we'd accumulated about 70 receipts, which I then scanned and put three-to-a-page in PhotoShop. Then I labeled each item on each receipt, color coding each item. I finally got all 29 pages labeled, converted to .pdf's, and emailed to the insurance company last Saturday. Phew!
I think I overwhelmed them. They're used to having a car stolen, or a computer and a stereo and a tv, or fine jewelry. They're used to having 1-5 items on a schedule of loss, not 263! I think they couldn't be bothered by my mounds and mounds of regular stuff, like shoes, boys' jeans, $5 bracelets, and $20 toys. So Monday, our adjuster called to say that they'd just cut us a check for the full amount!
That means they're paying me full price for my poor stolen wedding dress, which I didn't even try to replace. And my silver trumpet! Wahoo! It's still so sad that those original possessions are gone, but I think I'm over it now, and as materialistic as it sounds, a big fat check really helps!
