THREE-YEAR CHECK UP (or What I Wouldn't Do to Save $25)
Our insurance changed last night at midnight. We used to have a catastrophic-type health insurance with a Health Savings Account. It had one absolutely free well-visit for each member of the family per year. Our new insurance will have a $25 co-pay for every visit.
So what did we do? We called up the pediatrician on Thursday to see if they could squeeze Zach in on Friday for an early 3-year old check up. The appointment girl laughed at me until she saw an opening. And miracle of miracles, it was with our doctor!
All to save a $25 co-pay in May. I'm ridiculous!
He weighs only 37 lbs, not 38. Phew! One more pound before he grows out of all his baby gear. And he's 39 1/2 inches tall, although I'm not sure about that. The nurse had him lay down on the exam table instead of standing against the wall. He would have preferred the big boy approach, and was kicking and flailing at being pinned to the table. I think I measured him last week at 38 inches. Either way he's really tall!
Zach pulled out all the stops for the doctor. It was pretty funny. Dr. Keihl grabbed two rhinolaryngoscopes (the thing he looks in ears and eyes and nose with) and whooshed up to the exam table on his rolling stool. Zach said, "You got yours equipment?" Dr. Keihl looked at me and said, "I don't have many 2 year olds using THAT word!" Zach was very happy when the doctor handed him one of the 'scopes and let him flash the light all over the room.
That's when he spotted some wall art with the numbers from 1-10. He tried very hard to count to 20. I think he got all the numbers in, but jumbled them up after 15.
He had to get a shot, but hardly flinched. All he said was "that hurted."
The doctor said he's so healthy, that unless I have any concerns, I don't have to bring him back until he's 4. Doesn't that sound like a looong time from now? That's awesome.
