Thursday morning, Jared climbed out of his crib for the first time. I know, most kids are already OUT of their cribs by now, but he's seemed to like the security. We'd taken the side off of the crib twice already, and he's wanted it back on. But he finally got the nerve to get out by himself. Ryan was already up, and asked him to climb out again so he could see. Jared refused, saying "kinda little bit scary." But Friday, Jared climbed out of his crib after his nap. So I asked him if he'd like to be able to get out of his bed without having to climb out. He looked interested, so I asked if he'd like me to take the side off of his crib. He got SO excited and chanted "change my bed! change my bed!" And he reminded me all afternoon and evening that I still needed to.
Last night, I had a talk with Jared about the "rules" of having a big boy bed. Just because he can get out doesn't mean he should. So I told him that if he woke up and it was still dark, he needed to stay in bed. But if the sun had come up, he should come wake up Mommy and Daddy. He repeated the rules to Ryan, so I thought we were set. And he slept all night in his new "big boy bed."
But this morning, he didn't wake us up. He got hungry and got his own breakfast, KETCHUP!!! He got a new bottle out of the pantry, somehow managed to rip off the factory seal (I have trouble with those!) and helped himself. When he was done, he was upset at being so messy and started crying. That woke up Ryan. So I got up a puddle of ketchup on the kitchen floor (and smeared on the table and Jared's booster seat) and Jared in the bathtub. I think I'll be putting a bagel and milk within reach every night, lest this should happen again!
