HIKE! & A FIRST FOR ZACHJust like Jared, Zach hit a milestone of ravenousness at 3 1/2 months. I've been giving him extra bottles because he's just too hungry! With Jared, we stuck it out until 4 months, but I asked ahead of time and Zach's doctor said that rice cereal is okay to give him before 4 months.
So today, when Zach shouldn't have been hungry, he was screaming. Not a good time to try his first bite of food, but we did it anyway. Jared was so excited for his first bite, but Zach just sat there with it in his mouth as if to say, "Okay, now what?" or "Why did you put this in my mouth?" He ate about a tablespoon, though! And he seemed to not be so hungry anymore.
Then we hopped in the Jeep and drove out to the White Tank Mountains to go on a family hike. We hiked to the "waterfall." It was .9 miles each way, and half of the trail was wheelchair accessible. So we loaded up our strollers and pushed the boys to the end of the accessible part. We abandoned the strollers and strapped Zach into the Snugli. Jared walked alone until the rocks were too big for his short legs. Finally we got to the "waterfall." It only flows after heavy rain. And while we've had heavy rain this week, it was almost dried up. It pretty much trickled down the rock into a big pool full of baby frogs! The waterfall and pool are in a very tall, narrow alcove that was wonderfully cool. We ate lunch and watched some kids wading in the pool and catching the thumbnail-sized frogs. The hike back was hot, but all in all, we had lots of fun.
