JARED HAS ASTHMA
He's finally been diagnosed with asthma. It's no surprise, really. At our Ward Christmas party last year, he had an attack, and he's had several since then. Nothing real bad, and only triggered when he has a cold.
He's had a runny nose for two days, but this morning he woke up coughing and extra whiny. Ryan, who had mild asthma when he was little, said he needed a breathing treatment. It helped some. But all morning Jared was lethargic and cried & whimpered, even when he dozed off.
I took him to the doctor at 1:00. When she walked in, she knew right away that it was asthma. He just looked like the typical kid having an attack. She gave him two treatments back to back, and one with oxygen. If they didn't work, he was going to have to go to the hospital. Yikes!
Jared's a champ at his treatments, and the doctor and nurses were suprised to see him smiling through the mask. He told them it was like a train, with steam coming out.
Thankfully, the treatments worked great. The doctor ordered us a nebulizer, which will be delivered sometime today. She thought Jared shouldn't have to use Grandma's machine, which is probably 15 years old. Jared has to have a treatment every 4 hours, even during the night. He goes back for a follow-up visit tomorrow morning.
