JARED AND ZACH GO TO THE DOCTOR
How convenient that Zach turned 9 months when Jared turned 3! We had a combined appointment on Tuesday, but I went on Wednesday. Ooops. That's a first for me. Anyway, so we had to go back this morning.
Jared did AWESOME. He's balked at the scale and getting measured, but this time I talked him through what would happen before we got there. He did exactly what the nurse said. He weighs 32.8 lbs, which is about 60th percentile. He's 39 inches, which is 80th percentile. He was fascinated when they took his blood pressure, especially because he got a doctor's kit for his birthday. The doctor asked if he's showing any interest in potty training. Hah! I told him he was done with that, and no accidents, even at night. He's South African, so imagine his accent. He said, "That's quite extraordinary!" They use those words more than we do, I think. I asked him what sorts of things he should be learning, and he asked if he knew his colors yet. Hah again! He had those mastered a year ago. He asked about ABC's. We're working on those (recognizing the letters and their sounds instead of just singing the song), and he said to work on grouping things. I thought that was interesting.
He's been really sick with whatever is going around, but is much better. But flying under the radar was an ear infection. Jared said it doesn't hurt, but he's getting antibiotics for that. He also got a shot. All morning, he'd been telling me that the doctor doesn't give pokes anymore (hoping that he wouldn't get a shot). BUt I tried to prepare him for it, and was ready to take him out for ice cream afterward. I didn't need to. Not a flinch, not a whimper! He looked at me like, "what's the big deal?"
Zach weighs 20 lbs. 11 oz. or 70th percentile, and wouldn't cooperate for the height measurement. He was so cranky!!! I measured him at home, 29 inches or 75th percentile. The doctor asked if he was standing yet (pulling up). I asked him about cruising, which Zach doesn't do. He said it doesn't matter. He gets to choose how he wants to learn to walk. Which he's doing fine, just not by holding onto furniture. He prefers pushing his play table or walker around.
I suspected, from his clear super-runny nose that showed up this morning, that he might have RSV. Yup! He does. But he has a secondary double ear infection, poor thing. So he's getting antibiotics, too. He only got his toe pricked for and iron test, and his teeth were painted with fluoride stuff. Oh, they got a kick out of his lopsided mouth. He's got two teeth on one side on the top and two middle on the bottom. The nurse said she'd never seen that before. He really does look pretty goofy!
