WOODBADGE BEADING
Woodbadge is a two-weekend (6-day) intensive training course for Scout leaders. Ryan attended Woodbadge in October '06, and ever since, he has been "working his ticket." At the end of the course, each participant makes 5 goals that can be completed in the next 18 months. They're pretty big goals. Ryan's included completing the Duty to God program that his preists do, participating as staff in the Powderhorn training course, rechartering our ward's Pack, Troop, Team, and Crew, serving as an instructor at University of Scouting, and reading Sir Baden-Powell's (the founder of the world-wide Scouting movement) biography followed by making a presentation on his life. And he's done all of that since October!
Last night at our ward's Scout Court of Honor, several people from our Council came to present Ryan with his Woodbadge beads. In the beading ceremony, they are given a new neckerchief and woggle (that's a special kind of neckerchief slide) and of course their woodbadge beads. They also gave him a framed certificate of achievement.
Then all the attendees who have ever been to Woodbadge got up and sang the Woodbadge song, "Back to Gilwell."
I used to be a Bobwhite, and a good ol' Bobwhite too.
But now I'm finished Bobwhiting I don't know what to do
I'm growing old and feeble, and I can Bobwhite no more
So I'm going to work my ticket if I can.
Back to Gilwell happy land!
I'm going to work my ticket if I can.

Jared also went up to sing the song, even though he obviously hasn't been to Woodbadge. But he knew all the words! It was adorable!
