HALLOWEEN
All day, Jared kept telling people "Happy Halloween Day!" He said that Halloween didn't really start until the sun went down. We had all sorts of boring errands to run, but it was made more fun by wearing orange and black and looking for people in costumes. Then we came home and made shoe covers from craft foam to finish off the boys' costumes. And Zach refused to take his nap. Any other day would have been better than Halloween to skip a nap!
The excitement in our house as evening approached was nearly tangible and prevented Jared from eating much. Zach was blissfully unaware and scarfed down amazing amounts of food. He can really put it away!
The boys put their pj's on under their costumes, then we headed to the church, where they were having their Halloween party on the night of. We like it better when it's a few days before. We made an appearance and the boys got to go "fishing." Zach also liked the booth where he had to eat a donut off a string. He kept signing "eat" and pointing in the direction of the booth. He cried when we left to go Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood.
Jared couldn't remember what to say when he got to someone's door, and kept proclaiming "Happy Hawoween!" But that works, too. We tried to get him and Zach to stop grabbing huge handfuls of candy out of people's bowls, but were defeated by the people themselves. Apparently our neighborhood is kind of slow, and they were very willing to get rid of half their bowl at a time. One lady told us that we were only her third visitors, and it was already past 8 when we got there!
The first few houses, Zach tried to go right inside. And then when we turned to leave, he cried. But he finally got the hang of things. He would hike to the door, grab candy or hold out his bucket, then put down his bucket because it was too heavy, and sprint for the stroller and make himself comfortable. I lugged his bucket to the stroller and off we went.
One lady thought Zach was a bunny, and one guy thought he was a mouse. I can't really blame them--my first thought when Zach tried on his costume was "wait, I thought it was an elephant? or is it a mouse?"
When we got back home, Jared and poor napless Zach were very tired. They didn't seem to understand the point of Halloween, because neither of them looked in their loot bags or asked for candy. All they wanted was to sit on the couch for a while and eat....Cheerios, of all things!
So we had a happy, and even a healthy Halloween!
