CONTRACTING
We're playing contractor downstairs. Well, not really, but we've taken on some work that would normally be done by professionals. My parents are finishing their basement into an apartment that my sister and her family will live in for a while. My brother-in-law and sister played electricians and wired the whole place. There are plugs and light switches in all the right places. Now they just have to install light fixtures.
And I've offered to help with the painting. But it's not like repainting a house because you don't like the colors anymore. Wow, there's a lot to do! Apparently, painters hired by contractors do final filling, patching, and sanding, then prime the walls and trim, then paint. They also stain and polyurethane the kitchen and bathroom cupboards. So that means the Eagar Painting Crew has to do all of that! And that crew can only work while the kids are in school, and they have to take turns watching the preschool kids so the others can work.
But the kitchen cabinets are stained, and today about 1/4 of them got polyurethaned. And we primed all the drywall to keep the dust down (bare drywall has white dust all over it that just keeps brushing off!). A lot of the trim is primed, the kitchen walls are a beautiful red, and there's even one room that is completely done, paint, trim, light fixtures, and all!
I'm so glad I can be here to help my sister. It would take her months without help from me and our mom!
I'll have to post pictures when we get some of the rooms finished--especially the kitchen (because I helped pick out the countertops, which totally make the room!) Even though it's not my house, I'll still feel a sense of accomplishment.
