...AND WE'RE BACK!
It's good to be back online after a week and a half of feeling disconnected from the world. And what an eventful week and a half its been!
After visiting my family in Missouri, we drove to Omaha pulling a Uhaul trailer full of stuff my parents finally got tired of storing for me. We stayed in Omaha Sunday night so we could go to their much acclaimed zoo on Monday. I was nervous about the trailer because we'd caught wind of a similar trailer being stolen right off of someone's car at a hotel in Kansas City. There is no good way to lock the trailer onto my Jeep, so when we checked into our hotel room, I asked where I should park so that the trailer would be safest. The guy at the desk was very helpful, and made sure that I parked it where someone would be monitoring the security cameras all night.
But it didn't do any good. That night, a man came into the hotel to ask the desk attendant a question. While he had stepped away from the 6 tv screens showing the security camera surveillance, the man's friends hitched our trailer to a burgundy Dodge Ram truck and drove off with it. How do we know? It was all caught on the security video. But the footage was useless because it was too pixelized to even tell what state the license plate was issued in, much less a number. But the police sent out the word, and while we were at the zoo (we had nothing better to do), they recovered the trailer.
The next day, we had to pay $80 to get the thing out of the police impound. The good news is that Uhaul gets their trailer back. The bad news is that only clothes and toys were left inside, and it was a total wreck. I'm currently trying to remember everything that was in there so we can submit a claim to our insurance. What a nightmare!
The silver trumpet I worked so hard to earn in high school is gone. My wedding dress is gone. Jared's bike and the things I'd sewn while visiting my family are gone. And a whole lot of other things. But, afraid the trailer would ride too rough, I had my computer in the back of the Jeep. What a blessing that is! Our photos and my scrapbook pages and supplies are safe, not to mention any identity theft problems we could have faced.
Oh, and of course my sewing machine is somewhere in Nebraska, too. I'm feeling rather helpless without it. I'm anxious to sew curtains for our new house, and to recreate the hand-made items that were stolen. I never realized how precious that thing was to me. It feels like I've lost a limb or something!
Uhaulers beware!

Good grief! I had no clue that someone could do that. Glad to hear that you got some of it back. Sorry to hear that you lost a lot of it though. What did the police say about the whole thing? Glad to have you back online too. :)

Oh Susie, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. What sentimental things for them to have taken! I am glad that nothing happened to you or the boys!
