LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT
Wow, it's hard to get through airport security with kids! The Boise Airport had a special line for families, which was a good thing, or we would have held up the whole operation. We had about 8 of those little grey plastic trays full of stuff to go through the x-ray machine. Luckily we had the boys wear their crocs, and Ryan and I were wearing sandals, so taking off our shoes wasn't a big deal. I held Zach through the metal detector, then Jared came through. But Ryan got stopped because of his belt, so he took a while to come through. Meanwhile, all 8 of our little grey trays were piling up on the other end of the x-ray machine.
I had packed some glass plates in the boys' suitcases to take to my friend, Eva. Apparently they are leaded glass, which glows strangely in the x-ray machine. They pulled them over and dug through the suitcases to see what they were.
Finally we got our shoes back on, Zach's monkey backpack strapped on again, and all the stuff redistributed among the four of us. The hard part was over.
The boys had great fun at take off, then Zach promptly sacked out. We watched the flight path on the tv screens, seeing the big blue Great Salt Lake inch nearer on the map. Jared was enthralled with the data it showed, like that it was -23 degrees F outside and that we were going 400 something miles an hour. Actually, we all thought that was pretty cool!
On our second flight, but it was a bit windy and bumpy. Zach got scared and whimpered a bit until I wrapped my arm around him as much as I could (he was sitting in his car seat). I took some cool pictures of clouds out the window, and we even saw some landmarks of our old neighborhood from the air: the football stadium and Cabella's.
When we got off the plane, we noticed that Zach had soaked himself from the waist down. I guess the airline beverage service was a bit too much for him. So we found a bathroom, and luckily we'd carried his little police car suitcase onboard so we had fresh clothes.
We found Grandma Lancaster waiting for us at the curb. The boys didn't seem to mind that they hadn't seen her in a year. Jared was right at home with her, and Zach is so friendly with everyone (he walked through all three airports waving at everyone and saying hi) that he warmed up to her right away.
