Yesterday...Today...and Tomorrow Tag
I got tagged by my Freshman college roommate, Bonnie. (How many of you still keep up with your first roommate?)

Hmmm...I lived in...where? 1988 would mean we were about to move from Pennsylvania to Lousville, Kentucky. I loved Kentucky, although it seemed that I hit my teenager "who am I" stage a bit prematurely (I was only 11). It was tough, but it made me strong. My brother (my idol) was in Argentina on a mission. He missed Kentucky entirely....

I was getting ready to turn in my mission papers. I was working at Mooseburger Lodge (inside Six Flags Magic Mountain) as a waitress, making good money and waiting for my first niece to be born. It was weird not to go back to BYU in the Fall, especially when the Magic Mountain visitors dwindled. So I cut work often and stayed at my sister's house for weeks at a time, helping her with the new baby, sewing mission clothes and waiting for November (when I went to the MTC).

I had been married a year, and Ryan took me to visit his mission: Boise, ID. We were in college and poor, so we camped. As a side note, we just saw the campground we (sort of) slept at in Meridian get torn down. Camping in Idaho and Oregon in May isn't a good idea. It's still really cold at night. I was so embarrassed when Ryan decided it was too cold in Oregon (also part of his mission) and we showed up unannounced and mooched dinner and a bed off of one of the families he had gotten to know on his mission. The next night, we mooched dinner and a bed off of that family's sister. I was mortified!
That's also when we decided that we were getting kinda old (25) and we'd better leave Provo with a baby.
Ryan took me to the Greenbelt right by Boise State, we walked along the river and dodged Canada Geese. It seemed so much like our beloved Provo! I said, "I could definitely live in Boise." And you know, I really do love it!

Jared was 1. We had just entered "the real world" with a real job and a mortgage. We had been living in our first house for a few months and were liking all the extra work.
I met my friend Eva. We clicked almost instantaneously! She was in our ward and lived 4 houses away (that's rare in that neck of the woods).
We thought there was no way we could ever spend the giant paycheck Ryan brought home, and planned to remodel the kitchen within 6 months. Hah!
I was called as the 2nd Counselor in Primary. I wished I were in Nursery, because I didn't "get" older kids. That wish (a bad one) came true the next year. (I enjoyed Nursery, but I had 2 preschoolers 24/7, and didn't need two hours a week with 8 more!)

We moved to Boise. Our house deal in Arizona fell through and we moved into a tiny tiny duplex with two tiny bedrooms. Jared got demoted back to a crib (with the side off) because two cribs and a dresser absolutely filled up the room the boys shared. We had boxes piled up to the ceiling and the washer and dryer were in the tiny kitchen. It was so small, we had to open the oven door to open one of the kitchen drawers. No dishwasher, not enough room for 4 people to sit at the kitchen table. No yard. As Jared says, "we had a sidewalk to play on."
A few months after we moved in, our neighbor (in the other half of the duplex) was beaten to death by her boyfriend. The boyfriend came over that night to ask Ryan for a ride. I told him no way was he going anywhere with that creepy guy. We hadn't heard anything, nor did we know that he'd beaten her up before, or we would have checked on her. Maybe we could have saved her life. It makes me want to cry when I think that she lay there, just feet from us, and we didn't know she needed help.
What a welcome to Boise!

Yesterday I....
Went shopping to replace some of the things that were stolen in our Uhaul. The boys needed swimming suits and a few other things before we left on our trip to Arizona. We went to 8 stores before we found one in Jared's size! What, is every kid in Meridian his size? Zach's was much easier to find, and both are very cool.
Jared went to a Primary activity. I feel like a big, grown-up Mommy dropping off my son all by himself! I took Zach and ran to that last, magical number 8 store in a last-ditch effort to locate swimming trunks. When we went back, they let Zach join in the activity even though he's still in Nursery.
I also bought the biggest tin star I've ever seen. The one that was stolen was only 24" across. This one is 43". It was on sale for the same amount the insurance company gave me to replace it, so I figured why not? It didn't fit in the shopping cart very well, and became a wind-sail in the parking lot. Cart surfing, anyone?

Today I....
Washed 10 loads of laundry so we can pack it all clean. No, I didn't actually keep count, but I think 10 is a conservative estimate. I guess I was behind! And I didn't know we owned so many clothes...
I packed both boys' tiny suitcases with enough clothes for 1 1/2 weeks away from home, including swimming gear, church clothes, outfits for an outdoor wedding reception (in Mesa, meaning really hot), and appropriate shoes. It's a bit mind-boggling. Then I had to do the same for me, but I'm not quite done with that. I'm sure we'll forget tons of stuff.
I ate dinner at 4:30 and got dinner ready for Ryan and the boys so I could dash out the door the second Ryan got home. I had exactly one hour to get a hair cut and buy some shoes to wear to the wedding reception (both pairs of my brown dress sandals were stolen with the Uhaul, and I guess I'm too vain to wear black shoes with a brown skirt) before Ryan had to leave for Round Table (he's the Venturing Committee Commissioner). He was a tiny bit late...but I like my new shoes and hair cut. Although the guy who cut it kept swearing at me and trying to make me much cooler than I am. He said I now have "big, bad %*$ hair." As if that is what I was going for!

Tomorrow I will....
Get up earlier than usual so I can throw one more load of laundry in the dryer. Otherwise I won't have a skirt to wear to church on our trip. I will finish packing, somehow work breakfast in there, and get to the airport by 11:30 am with all our gear. I have no idea how we're going to get four suitcases (maybe 5), two car seats, a diaper bag, purse, big 'ol camera bag, and all our little stuff into the terminal! I don't dare take the umbrella stroller (airlines are starting to charge to check things on, and I'm scared), so Zach will be trying to run away the whole time, too. Thank goodness for his "monkey backpack" (which, let's face it, is a leash.) Oh, and I'd really like to manage to take a box of dishes on the plane. They're for my friend, Eva. But that might be too much.
We'll fly to Phoenix and see the inlaws. Go buy diapers because they don't fit in suitcases. Collapse into bed.

In The Next Year I....
Will move again. Who knows where to. Meridian? Boise? Maybe we'll actually own a house again. One that I can paint and get everything out of boxes, knowing we'll be there a while. Right now, I leave lots of stuff in its box, especially things requiring wall anchors, nails, or any other type of installation.
I'll finally make some friends again. The kind that I can see sometimes, who live in the same state as I do. I have lots of friends, just none in Idaho!
I will go on a shopping spree. I have 6 months to replace all the stolen stuff.
I will jump on the Potty Training Wagon again and get Jared ready to go to kindergarten (we're still working on the counting-to-twenty thing. He wanders through the teens).
And I will try to be more positive. I will try to go to bed earlier and drink more water.
I will study the heck out of the Book of Mormon. No one in my ward reads this blog (I think) so I can spill the beans that I just got called as the Gospel Doctrine Teacher. Yikes! Me thinks that is a hard one! With lots and lots of potential for spiritual growth. Hopefully not the painful kind!

I tag Katrina, Kika (a mission companion) and Erin (my SIL in Korea)
