SEWING CLASS
Today I attended the first sewing class of my life. Oh, except for 6th grade Home Ec. But I was sick that year and missed the sewing part of that class, and I already knew how to sew, so I just did it at home. So I don't think that counts.
It's the free class you get when you buy a new sewing machine. I was the youngest there by about 20 years. The other ladies were talking about the quillows and baby blankets they were making for their grandkids. But the instructor tailored the lesson to me, showing me how to mend rips in the boys' jeans.
She ran us through lots of basic activities, showing us the features of our machines. We did an overlock stitch, blind hem (I'm a pro at that already--I did it on my curtains!), button-holes with this fancy attachment, sewing on a button, and playing with programming the decorative stitches. And how to clean the machine. It was fun! And being out of the house alone, with grown-ups, was really, really great!
