PEEK INTO MY WEIRDNESS
I don't know if anyone else visualizes a year. I formed this concept when I was really young, probably in kindergarten when we learned the months of the year and the seasons. I came up with this image in my head of what a year "looks like."
The other day, I was thinking that it's kind of weird. And I also realized that I've never actually drawn it out. It's got some blurry sections that I still haven't worked out. So I figured I'd try.

It's so funny, because it's totally screwed up! I thought I'd do it mathematically, and divided the circle into 12 equal sections, with the four seasons divided into equal quarters. But that didn't work, because in my head, there are three main points that have never moved, that I base all my other measurements on. School starting, school ending, and Christmas break! Come on, what kid's life doesn't revolve around school?
And as I was drawing it out, I realized that growing up in Southern California could have helped my concept of the seasons. I mean, in my head, Winter starts in December because we get out Christmas decorations. Spring starts in February when the flowers bloom in L.A. Summer is just Summer Break, and Fall starts with Back-to-School.
It's really funny how all those things have created this skewed concept of time. And how I still use it today. And how every year, I think it's weird that Fall doesn't start on September 1, and Winter doesn't start on December 1. And why is it still snowing in February??? You're supposed to have tulips and daffodils for Valentines' Day!

So now do you think I'm totally cuckoo?

Um.
Where's May?
Do you hate May for some reason? I think May is a perfectly lovely month... WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST MAY?

This made me totally laugh - I thought I was the only one out there but I too have a "special" calendar in my brain that I believe formed in 1st grade.
My months go top to bottom - January - May and then June, July and August go across (summer vacation) and September- December go down top to bottom again but on the other side of August, so a different column. It has always been that way in my head. ha ha. The things that stick with us can be weird:)

Oh gee, I did forget May. Probably because I was having a hard time squishing it into the overly-crowded Spring category. And Erin, the sarcasm is coming through quite nicely this time, thank you.
Cherie, thanks for sharing your special calendar. After no one commented for a few days, I started wondering if I was just "special." :)
