THE DRAMA CONTINUES
Ugh. I've been on the phone all morning trying to get the heater fixed. First, the management company said they didn't know anything about it, and the lady in charge of our house is out of the office (she ALWAYS is!). So I called the repair company, and they said sorry, they're booked until MONDAY.
So I looked up the forecast. SNOW! I started freaking out and started calling around to the Idaho Housing Authority, etc. to find out what the law is concerning timely repair of a heater. True to government form, the said they couldn't answer my question and transferred the call to someone else. That lady asked about our income to see if we qualify for free legal services. Uh, no, we don't, and I don't want legal services, I just want to know how fast they have to fix the heater when it's this cold! In Utah, this question was answered on the news once. But in Idaho, no one can tell me. She said I'd have to hire a lawyer, and suggested I start making a paper trail so when we're in court, we have evidence.
HELLO! I don't want to sue the landlord, I just don't want to be cold all weekend!
Finally I called the management company back and a new lady was answering the phones. Guess what? She took care of it for me. She called the heating company, approved the charges and said to order the part, and got them to squeeze us in tomorrow morning between 9 and 1. And she's sending someone out with more space heaters. Good thing, 'cause we're freezing. I'm thinking of baking muffins now. This is a definite drawback of an open floorplan--space heaters don't work very well in them!

Just goes to show that it absolutely depends on who you talk to. If you don't get the answer you need, wait until a shift change and call back!

Oh, and to make things freakier, there was a story on the news a few days ago. The fire department says that since the economy tanked, people can't afford to fix their heaters, so they're using space heaters, which are starting more fires. Lovely, eh?

Oh don't even get me started on "customer service" or talking to businesses on the phone! I hate it! It's so true what you said though, it REALLY depends on who you talk to. I make a lot phone calls to state agencies and doctors offices for Jordyn and it is extremely stressful trying to get information or a question answered! OCCASIONALLY I'll actually talk to someone who is helpful and it really makes my day. I always think," I need to call their boss and tell them what a great job "so and so" is doing!"

It actually is good advice to make a paper trail when you're calling people too. 90% of the time you won't need it, but I have run into situations where companies will say,"Well, do you remember when you called and who you talked to?"
OK I'm rambling....good luck and hope your heater gets fixed tomorrow!!!
