EATING CONTEST
I think my kids could win an eating contest. It's really quite amazing how much they put down without even trying!
Last week, I made grilled stuffed burritos (inspired by Taco Bell). I started the boys with half a burrito because I forgot to turn on the rice cooker, which delayed dinner. So I let them eat fruit salad to tide them over, and they'd eaten large quantities of that. They ate more than half of it between them! The salad consisted of one apple, one banana, a can of pineapple, and a can of mandarin oranges. I thought that should have taken the edge off their hunger. I was dead wrong. They begged for another half a burrito. I only ate one, with far less fruit.
At lunch, when Zach has wolfed down all food in sight, he asks for another one. Another quesadilla, another grilled cheese sandwich, more applesauce, etc. Today he ate FOUR bowls of applesauce (one was enough for me) and asked for a fifth. I had to draw the line at four.
Then tonight, we made porcupine meatballs with brown rice, carrot sticks, and more fruit salad. I eat one meatball mixed with rice. Jared ate two, with double the rice I had. That's right, he ate TWICE what I ate! And again, he ate more fruit salad than I did.
And the craziest thing is that I know that when they get out of their bath in 10 minutes, they'll say they're hungry, and what's for dessert?
So many parenting questions revolve around getting children to eat more. That's a foreign idea to me! What I'm worried about is paying for my children's food!
And does this mean that I need to store twice as much food for a year's supply? Otherwise, I might spend a year hearing, "Mom, I'm starving!" when I give them a normal daily ration.
And what on earth am I going to do when they are teenagers?

Oh my growth spurt happening!

It just gets worse let me tell you. Boys will eat you out of house and home, especially if they are not picky eaters - be prepared!

Your boys can come over and compete with my son. He is ALWAYS hungry! When he was just barely one he would wake up and bring me canned food from the pantry, to show me that he was ready to eat.

We went to a party once and he ate 3 1/2 hot dogs with no prompting from me (the other moms kept saying "just one more bite please" to their children).

I know what you mean about worrying about your food bill. I think Dave might have to take a second job when E. is 16, just to pay for the food!

Good grief! That is nuts! I can barely get Caden to eat anything unless it is nuggets and french fries or grandpa's apple juice. Good luck with their appetites! I feel for you when they get to be teenagers.
