JARED'S 5 YEAR CHECK-UP
Talk about an uneventful doctor's visit! Nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing painful. No shots, even, because we got him up to kindergarten standards last visit.
We did get to read some new books in the lobby, and Jared got a new one to keep.
And in case you're interested in statistics, Jared is 43 3/4 inches tall, and weighs 44 pounds. That's 75 percentile for both.

Zach has fun in that office. The halls have carpet tiles with different colors, and some have big letters on them. He hops from one letter to another, calling out whatever he's just jumped on.
I asked the nurse to weigh him, too, and it appears that he's "square," too! 38 pounds (no wonder I can't hardly hold him anymore) and 38-ish inches tall. He's off the charts for weight and just around 90th percentile for height. I smell a growth spurt coming! (he's usually the other way around, off the charts for height and lower on weight) I was about to buy him some new pants, but I think I'll wait.

It's crazy to me that the boys are only 6 inches and 6 pounds apart!

The only really interesting part of the visit, besides measurements, was when I talked to the doctor about doing the surgery on Jared's head before he starts school. The doctor brought up the subject by saying that he's gained a new patient who also has cutis aplasia, and he wonders "if he'll be a genius like Jared."

Last month, Jared asked me to take a picture of his "bald spots" so he could see them, so I happen have one in case you haven't seen what I'm talking about. The doctor looked up cutis aplasia in a big fat pediatric dermatology book and showed me pictures of other kids with the condition. Their scars looked like they'd been scratched on the head, and the book said that this condition generally doesn't require any correction because hair covers it up. Jared's scars are quite a bit larger! The book said if they're big enough, "reconstructive plastic surgery" can be done. We'll see what insurance says about that! I wonder if "reconstructive" is the key word that would get the procedure covered.

Hi I noticed your picture from a google search. My son has the same thing and looks almost identical to your sons "bald spot". My son (6) calls it his baby bump , since he was born with it. We are going to be scheduling plastic surgery in april for him. Feel free to contact me if you would like to chat.
