A LONG TIME AGO...
Jared was eating his afternoon snack when he asked me, "Why is the Salt Lake called a lake? It's way bigger than a lake."
I told him that the oceans are all connected, and that's how you know how that they're the sea or ocean instead of a lake, but that sometimes people named things a little silly, like the Dead Sea, which is really a lake (we'd talked about the Dead Sea and the Salt Lake a few weeks ago). I shot a little off the hip and told him that they couldn't send up a satellite to see if the Dead Sea was connected to the ocean, and since it was salty, they must have figured it was the ocean (I'm sure they had fairly good maps back then, but we'll pretend).
"Why couldn't they send up a satellite?" he asked.
"Because they didn't know how back then."
"Was that a long long time ago?"
"Yes, a very long time ago," I replied.
"Was that back in the 90's?"
Hmmm. Yeah.
Post Script:
I was telling Ryan this story at dinner tonight, and Jared commented, "But, I thought the 90's was when Adam and Eve were still alive."
