CRAIGSLIST JUNKIE
I'm turning into a Craigslist junkie. I check it all the time for the furniture we need. It's so much more convenient than a yard sale!
But there are some funny things I've noticed that pop up ALOT.
Craigslisters often make these mistakes:
"rod iron" instead of wrought iron
"must sale" instead of must sell
"matteress" instead of mattress
"slider rocker" instead of glider (or maybe that's just how they talk here?)
"veneer" instead of pressboard with wood-print paper glued on (NOT the same!)
And you can't forget the good ol' "dinning" room table and chairs
And anything more than 10 years old is labeled "vintage." My favorite was a wood and floral couch no doubt from the 90's. That's not vintage, people! I'm not sure what the exact definition of vintage is, but it seems to me that it's the years preceeding the designation of "antique." So stuff from the 1930-40's, maybe? Or is that antique now? Maybe it's 40's-50's. But definitely NOT the 90's.
And one of my favorite forms of speech appeared on one listing. "Nice dresser. Needs painted."
To be, or not to be. Somebody, just stick "to be" in the sentence!!!
By the way, if anyone knows of two matching bookcases for sale....

I'm a Craig's List junkie too. I check every day for furniture!
My number one pet peeve is when people post HORRIBLY taken pictures of the stuff they are selling. Or even worse... no picture at all! Come on people! Good luck in your search!
Yes, it is amazing how many people out there cannot spell even the most basic words.
There is definately an Idaho slang. I've noticed it ever since we moved here.
I've also noticed different slangs in different parts of the country. It is kind of fun to listen to.
I know that I talk right, as I told a friend from W. Virginia (with a heavy accent) because the people on the national news channels speak like I do - not like you do (I said to my friend!). Ha ha
Cherie, you can call it slang, but I call it "ignernt." I've only heard very rural people say, "the car needs washed" or "the barn needs painted."
It makes my ears burn, but sometimes I want to think it's kinda cute and endearing.
