This is a picture of me and Renée, my best friend in high school.
There's lots of info in this picture:- That was my room, which I decorated as a Laurel project for Young Women. Renée and I both love horses. In fact, I still remember when her mom brought her over to meet me. Renée had just moved to CA from SC. I think someone said, "Do you like horses?" and that was all it took. We were friends. It didn't hurt that she lived 4 doors down.
- I'm wearing "Jeff's Sweater." It was called that because my big sister bought it as a Christmas gift for a boyfriend named Jeff, but they broke up before Christmas, so she kept it. Then when she got tired of it, I inherited it. At least, that's what I think happened.
- Yes, it was cool for girls to wear men's clothes. It was the whole "preppy" fad. I think Renée is wearing one of her step-dad's old sports coats. I got one of those, too, an authentic Harris Tweed. Very cool. I have a photo of me in it. Maybe that will be another Flashback Friday!
- Renée gave me that Winnie the Pooh. Our large group of high school friends all adopted Winnie the Pooh nicknames one day at school, just for kicks. Renée was Pooh. But I had chicken pox that week, so I didn't get to choose my name. The only one left was Christopher Robin, but it was the best one for me by far!
- I still have the Pooh Bear she gave me. It's graced each of my babies' nurseries.
- Renée posted this photo in her Facebook album and labeled it "Christopher Robin left the 100 Acre Wood." That's because I was leaving for college in the morning. I believe that right after my mom snapped that photo, we all started bawling.

Can you believe that in Jan. it has been 19 years?! I remember my mom taking me to your house and I was all sulky because she was making me meet some girl who lived on our street and being a silly adult she thought that just because we were the same age we would instanly become friends. 'Cause that never happens. And then the famous "You like horses? I like horses too" that sealed the deal. Maybe our moms weren't such silly adult after all ;-) I think you becoming Christopher Robin fit perfectly with us...it was always Pooh and Christopher Robin. Right after you went to BYU there was a new Pooh movie out about CR going away to school and everytime I watched it (thanks to the many many hours of babysitting) it reminded me of you. And here we are, 19 years later, married, kids, and living in seperate states and still in ways it's still "So wherever I am, there's always Pooh, There's always Pooh and Me. 'What would I do?' I said to Pooh, 'If it wasn't for you', and Pooh said: 'True, It isn't much fun for One, but Two can stick together,' says Pooh, says he. 'That's how it is,' says Pooh."
Wow! That is so cool. Keep friends when you get them. That is priceless. You guys look so cute.
