SLEDDING TRIP
I'm finally getting around to posting about our sledding trip last Saturday. It started a bit rough. I was so excited that I had snow pants (that fit!) for both boys this time! But for some reason I couldn't find their snow boots. I just assumed they were in their closets, and 2 minutes before we were going to leave, I sent them upstairs to get them. Hmmm....where did they go? I still haven't found them!

I found some non-snow boot substitutes and off we went. It's quite the drive to Bogus Basin, our local ski area, and the last part consists of hairpin turns and windy mountain roads.
We saw signs for their "tubing area," but when we finally saw it, our hears sank. It had a tow rope and actual tubes. It looked like the kind you pay for. Zach and I did some sleuthing, and it would cost us $40 to ride! Considering that Zach makes about two runs before he's done for the day, we didn't want to pay that much. We asked around, and everyone said there wasn't anywhere else with snow that we could sled on.

We kept driving and found a likely hill, and it even had a tiny access road we could park on! We decided to try it out. Mostly we just sat on the sled and slid. I'll just let the photos do the talking.

There were lots of fun crashes, and only two produced any sort of injury.

My biggest problem was that I kept sinking into the snow to my knees. What really scared me, though, was when I sank in up to my hip--and my foot down below wasn't touching anything. That was really creepy, let me tell you. Was it going to be bitten off by a bear? Swarmed with killer bees? Attacked by rattlesnakes? Okay, so it was far too cold for snakes or bees, but in a split second all those thoughts ran through my mind. It didn't help that I knew a girl in high school who actually had had a leg sink into a rattlesnake den. They bit her over and over while she screamed. They obviously got her to a hospital with anti-venom in time to save her life, but the muscle in her calf was nearly dissolved by the poison. She wore a brace on her shriveled leg, and was lucky to walk at all. We enlarged the hole made by my leg and it was just a cavern full of roadside weeds. Phew! But it was big enough to swallow 4 people. And it was at the bottom of the hill, so I was afraid someone would fall in at the end of a run.

Back at the Jeep, we scarfed down nearly all the snacks I'd brought and started the long drive home. I thought it was cute how Jared fell asleep in the car:

And I am now afraid of dark holes and my leg feels funny. Thank you.

Those pictures look like a lot of fun though. You got some great shots.

WOw, that looked fun! The kids looked pooped at the end huh? Love the new "love kit" too. The clothes pin is darling.
