Mamma Mia!

RedBox has been getting a lot of business from us during our sickness. Wednesday it was Marley & Me, which we stupidly thought was another Disney dog movie for kids. I mean, how many freakin' dog movies have they made! But no, this was entirely for adults, and in my opinion shouldn't have been rated PG.

Neither should Mamma Mia! There were some entirely disgusting things that people apparently think are "funny." I wish they would have left them out. But overall, it was an enjoyable movie.

I think they probably should have chosen the actors based on singing ability first and acting ability second. Yes, Meryl Streep can sing, but it's not her foremost talent. I think for all of the actors who sang, there were great moments, bust most of the music was mediocre. I didn't expect much from Pierce Brosnan, and applaud him for trying. But this is a musical, for crying out loud! Hire SINGERS! (I gotta say, though, that even though he's getting kinda old, Pierce Brosnan is still yummy! Have I ever told you that he ate in the restaurant I worked at? He sat at table 72.)

Another thing that bugged me to no end was how they insisted on singing, "Mamma Mia. Here it comes again. My my, how could I resist YUH." Sure, ABBA doesn't quite say "you," but it's far more subtle than on the movie. UGH! She sounds like a hick or something.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can hear Meryl Streep sing it here, and ABBA sing it here.

Even more baffling is that I know that Meryl Streep is doing this show live, touring the world. I just don't see it. She can sing, but she's not some great singing talent to be paraded on the world stage!

And just to throw in another opinion of mine, I think that Erasure is probably the only band who should try to cover ABBA. I love their ABBAesque album! Sure, they're kinda cuckoo, but they sound great.

I must say, I'm thoroughly enjoying the license that being sick has given me. I never get to watch movies! Unfortunately, I've also been able to watch them because Ryan has been working insane hours. I can put the boys to bed and watch most of a movie before he gets home. So, so sad. It would be nice to see him again!

That's about what I've heard from everyone who has seen the movie. The music left a lot to be desired. I guess they were hoping a big name would draw people in and then they wouldn't care that the big names couldn't really sing.

Yeah, I have seen the play, and it is not anything like the movie. I LOVED the play, and I HATED the movie. It was stupid that they made one of her dads gay in the movie too. That was nowhere in the play. So dumb what Hollywood does. They take stuff and ruin it. I hope you find some better movies on Redbox, and get better soon. :)
