Miss USA

If you haven't heard about what the Miss USA contestant from California said, you can see it here on YouTube.
I don't know if there's a way I could get a message to her, but if I could, I would say
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!

Because come on! She probably knew that her answer would hurt her chances of winning, especially with a gay guy and a bunch of celebrities (who are generally liberal) as judges. But she said what she believed anyway.

Would you have the courage to do the same? Even if you are pro-gay marriage, ask yourself if you could have stood up for your beliefs on national television, even if it meant you would lose the contest you'd wanted to win all your life!

What if the question had been about abortion? And she'd said that she didn't believe in abortion? Would it have caused such a ruckus? Would she have lost the pageant?

And why was that a question, anyway? Aren't they usually about universal world issues, like world hunger and education? Or gun control (ha ha! I had to slip in a reference to Miss Congeniality!) They asked her for an opinion, and they got her opinion, and she has suffered so much for it. Should she have lied instead? NO!

What really bothers me is the UPROAR it has caused. Because apparently, no one is allowed to believe how she believes anymore. It's absolutely scandalous if you do! If you believe that only men and women should be married to each other, you're going to be ridiculed and criticized and hated, and you'll be denied things that you would otherwise deserve.

Does that sound fair?

It doesn't really sound too different than the religious persecution so many people endured for so many centuries. They were driven out of their homes and killed for standing up for the things they believed. I thought we'd put an end to that. But only, apparently, if you're liberal. If you're conservative, you're out of luck.

I'm SO proud of her!

I agree with you...I can't believe there is such an uproar because she believes marriage is between a man and woman.
Did you see the YouTube video Perez Hilton made after the pageant? Outrageous! (if you watch it, be warned, there are a few swear words).
I can't believe I'm saying this but, he made a good point(in his video) that she could have worded it differently. I think she stumbled on her words a bit... but I guess you can't blame her because she was in the hot seat, big time!
I'm still proud of her too!

Makes me wonder why everyone is so proud of the "tolerant" society we supposedly live in.

I am so dang proud of that girl!

I actually saw quite a few news shows who applauded her (The Today show for one) for standing up for what she believed it and felt it was wrong to be judged on the fact that the judge didn't agree with her answer.

We were also wondering why she was even given the question. They are not allowed to give religious questions and I think that one comes pretty close because bottom line on that issue is usually religious beliefs and morals.

You know I adore you, Susie, but this is one among many issues we'll have to agree to disagree.

I guess in this case (and on a few other issues)I am liberal and so I completely disagree with Miss. CA's answer.

However, I do agree with you that the question and her answer shouldn't be such an uproar. People shouldn't be so shocked and so offended...she said nothing that we haven't hear before. It's her opinion and she's entitled to it and if that is what cost her the crown, then that is wrong.

And I would have had no problem voicing my opinion if I was in her shoes, so I give her props.

As for religious persecution: sadly it still goes on today, even in America. But that is another topic ;-)
