The world according to Zach

Ryan thinks that "the world according to Zach" is pretty funny. He comes up with crazy explanations and interpretations of what things are and how they work.

Today while we were out in the yard, I spotted a big black plume of smoke coming from a mile or so away. I pointed it out to the boys. Zach immediately explained, with much gusto, of course, "That's black smoke and it's coming from a fire truck and it goes up and up and up into the sky!"

I said, "Yeah, I bet there's a fire truck there to put out the fire." That's how I deal with it when my kids make no sense. I try not to tell them they're flat-out wrong. They get enough of that when I'm pulling my hair out because they've just dumped milk all over the table. And besides, most of the time I'm just not understanding them right.

"And the truck is shooting fire out of the fire hose!" he continued.

Ah, now I understand. He thinks that fire trucks are incendiary devices, and fire hoses shoot fire.

Well duh, now that you put it that way, why are they called "fire hoses?" And "fire trucks?" Shouldn't they be "anti-fire trucks" and "fire-putter-outer hoses?"

As Ryan says, "Hey, I like his explanation!"
