First Day of School....Ever!

We got Jared looking all cute for his first day of kindergarten, and his first day of school ever! He never did preschool, so his only experience has been Primary (church) classes and swimming lessons.

Today, we parked instead of just dropping him off at the curb. We'll see how long it is before we're comfortable doing that. I planned in some extra time to take a few pictures.

Then we went to the side of the school, by the playground. All the other kids were having recess, and when the bell rang, they all lined up to go inside. We didn't know where Jared's class should line up, so, just like all the other confused kindergartners and parents, we just sort of hung around. Then Jared's teacher appeared and showed us where Jared will line up every day.

Because it's the first day, we got to walk him in to his class. Zach loved seeing Jared's cubby (where Jared promptly stuffed his completely empty backpack) and desk, and gave him a hug before we left the classroom.

When we left, all the kids were sitting on carpet squares and listening intently. I know Jared's going to come home full of stories to tell us!

There was a scary moment for me when we walked out of Jared's classroom. Zach pointed to the other kindergarten classroom and said, "Is that mine class?" I thought he'd cry all the way home that he didn't get to go to school. We'd talked about it before, and he seemed fine with staying home, so I wasn't prepared for that! Thankfully, he decided that he didn't really need to go to school until he turns 5, too.

Oh so cute! How exciting! It was crazy leaving Kaleb at school. I said okay I am going to leave now do you want me to pick you up or do you want to take the bus. He opted for the bus. And has taken it to and from ever since. Granted the last two mornings I have sent him crying. So hard on me. He is in German kindergarten not like our kindergarten. It is more like a free play/day care. It is for ages 2-6. Academic school does not start for the german kids until they turn six. Anna had a really hard time leaving she can't wait til she turns three to ride the bus with Kaleb. They did not have any openings for her age right now. Well Jared looks so darn cute! and so grown up! I sure wish we had the chance to see you all before we left! Maybe next time??
