Western Idaho Fair

We went to the Fair last night. I really thought fairs were for the "regular joe" but the prices were absolutely outrageous! At least we didn't have to pay for parking. Of course, we couldn't find a parking spot, so we had to park half a mile away and hoof it to the gates!

We mostly walked around and saw what there was to see. Ryan decided I need to enter the photography contest next year. There were some amazing quilts and crafts! Of course they had all kinds of farm animals, and we got to see a little show about exotic/wild animals, too. They had a serval, capuchin monkey, Bengal tiger, and a cougar. They were trained, and I don't envy their life as carnival animals. The boys got to feed some goats, and Jared was ecstatic when a paint colt ate a single stalk of hay from his hand!

Zach liked the huge pumpkins!

The boys were drawn toward the rides, with their bright lights and whirling colors. But it would have cost us $20 for a 2-minute ferris-wheel ride! Or $20 to ride the carousel. Gee whiz, who can afford to go on the rides? Even the food was crazy expensive. We considered sharing a funnel cake, but it was $6 for a very small one, a few bites each if we split it. We could have easily blown over $100 in just the two hours we were there. Yet somehow, the news says that the fair is making record amounts of money! At $5 per ride per person? Yikes.

It was getting late, anyway, so we headed home got $1 ice cream sundaes in the McDonald's drive-thru instead. (Poor Zach was so worn out that he was sound asleep moments after his head hit his car seat. He missed out on ice cream) We're all sort of wiped out from the experience today.

I totally agree wtih you on the prices for the fairs lately. We are planning on going to the state fair, but just because there is a night where it is cheaper than others. :) I like the idea of ice cream at McDonalds drive-thru after. We might have to try that. Looks like you had fun even though the prices were high. :)
