Father's Day

Didn't know it was Father's Day, did you? Well, neither did Ryan, so we managed to surprise him!

Ryan was on a campout Saturday, and the boys and I saw that an entire neighborhood was having a yard sale! I love those! We got a few good things, like a headboard for our second queen bed (Zach's sleeping on it now.)

The last house we stopped at had a tent. And I don't mean a plain ol' dome tent. This is a 10-person, 4 room tent with several doors! Our family is quite squished in our current tent, so we've been looking for something bigger. And they only wanted $35 for it!

We tried to figure out how to hide the thing until Father's Day, then remembered that we'll be going camping in a few weeks. So we wanted to give it to Ryan before our trip. And then we really couldn't find a place to hide it, so we hurried and threw together a Father's Day celebration. Jared wrote Happy Father's Day on a banner, and we made a few decorations. Then, using an entire roll of wrapping paper, we wrapped the tent box. Literally minutes after we put away the tape, Ryan walked in from his campout. Surprise!

If you don't know Ryan very well, I think I could give him a tent for every occasion and he'd still love it. I don't know how many tents we own, but I'm sure we could provide shelter to many of our neighbors should we suffer a natural disaster.

We're very glad that we gave it to him the day we bought it, and that he wanted to set it up and test it out. Because the shock-cord poles weren't in the box! I went back to the house I'd bought it at, and turns out that her aunt had been selling some things at their yard sale. So the tent poles were an hour away at her house. We managed to get the poles without too much trouble, but if we'd waited until the real Father's Day, the family would have moved and we'd be out of luck.

We didn't set it up after we got the poles, but I'm sure Ryan will test it out before we go on our campout in a few weeks. Our only fear is that we won't be able to find a tent site large enough for our new portable, pop-up palace!
