Kindergarten Graduate

Zachary graduated from Kindergarten!
His school had a fun program to celebrate. They played Pomp and Circumstance as the kids walked in from the back of the cafeteria and filed onto risers, then the kindergartners sang two songs. I loved their song choices, which were exactly the same songs that Jared sang at his graduation, even though it was at a different school!

Big Dreams
Just because I'm shorter than a grown-up
Just because I'm young, I'm not afraid
I may not always know the best way to go
But I have big, big dreams!

Big, big dreams, lots of big dreams,
Things I wanna do some day
Big, big dreams, lots of big dreams!
Big dreams are okay!

Then they sang this song, to the tune of "New York, New York." So cute!
First Grade, First Grade
Start spreading the news
We're leaving today
We want to be a part of it!
First grade, first grade!

We're ready to go
We've worked very hard
We want to be a part of it! First grade, first grade!

We've learned our ABC's and 123's so well

So now we've (s

Jared got to skip class and watch the graduation with us. It was hard to see over all the adults, though.

Then they had each kindergartner go shake the principal's hand and accept a graduation certificate.

The kids were so orderly as they filed out! They walked to the center, took the
hand of their partner, and stepped down the risers.

Knowing Zach, he's grinning like that because he's holding a girl's hand.

Zach was so cute waiting as the rest of the kids got their certificates. He kept jamming his hat down as far as it would go. When we found him, he complained that the hat hurt his ears. Um, stop squishing it down so hard, then!

They announced that there would be a reception in the classrooms. It sounded so fancy, but basically we just went to take pictures with their teacher and sign the kids out of school early.

Zach with one of his friends. The drawing between them is Zach's work, a graduate,
complete with mortarboard and tassel, holding a certificate.

Luke found the play area in the classroom, and tried on Zach's hat.

The graduate in front of his school!
I'm not sure why kindergarten gets such a big to-do, but it sure is fun to give these kiddos a boost in self-esteem! Zach is very proud of himself!
