Tonight we got to repay a kindness. Last year, when we were visiting the Boise office to see if we wanted to transfer from Phoenix, a couple from Nampa invited us over for dinner. We literally did not have room to return the favor in the duplex, but we do now! So we invited them over for dinner and Zach's birthday party. As a bonus, they have a little boy who is two weeks from turning 3. He's right between our boys, and therefore played with both of them!
Zach must have been paying attention to all the birthday parties he's been to, because he's a pro! He stood in front of his cake while we sang to him, and the moment the singing ended, he tried to blow out his candles. It took him a few tries, but he did it.
When it was time for gifts, he again showed confidence in a birthday situation. He expertly (although sometimes a bit slowly) ripped off the paper and even said thank you.
He got a MegaBlocks ramp to build and race cars down, a kid-sized shovel and wheel barrow (his dad is hinting that he wants help with yard work), a box full of construction and farm equipment models (like Hot Wheels), and a Little People cement mixer that makes sounds. Our friends brought him a bubble-blowing machine! He's excited to get that out tomorrow.
It was fun to have company over. We don't do that nearly enough!
