DOCTOR VISIT
The boys went to the doctor today for their yearly visits. Never mind that it's almost 6 months past due for Jared...
Jared weighs almost 42 pounds, which is 80th percentile. He's almost 42 inches tall, too, which is 75th percentile. Which I don't understand at all! His ribs are pretty obvious when he's running around in his swim suit. You'd think he'd be significantly lower in his percentile for weight!
The doctor remembered looking up gifted resources for him back in November, and asked how that went. I had to tell him that the G.A.T.E. lady hadn't called back, and we hadn't found anything else in the area. But he thought it was a good idea to talk to the local schools and see what they recommend.
Zach is 32 pounds, 6 oz. which is 90th percentile. And 37.5 inches tall, which is over the 97th percentile! During the checkup, Zach was super-cooperative. He stuck out his tongue, took deep breaths (he likes to play doctor at home, so he's practiced), and leaned over to touch his toes (to check for scoliosis). The doctor said that was the first time a two year old had ever actually done those things!
Zach was bored while Jared was getting checked out, so he started naming colors and letters he saw. The doctor said he should probably "smart enough to start potty training."
When he left, the doctor said, "good luck with your little geniuses!" So yeah, they're doing fine!
Then the mean old nurses came in to give shots. Jared got his four pre-kindergarten shots. They just give them when kids turn 4. Zach got three. They sat on my lap and I hugged their arms down. One nurse told Jared, "I have a bouncy ball in my pocket for you" as she was sticking him. He said, "Owww!" each time, but that was it. Then she pulled out a really BIG bouncy ball, and it was all worth it! Suddenly, Zach ran to sit on my lap, saying, "My turn, me too!" I think he changed his mind when the needles went in...but he made sure that he got his big ball, too.
And of course, they got books & stickers on top of all that!
