I took the side off of Zach's crib today. Yikes! I wasn't this nervous with Jared, and I tried him before he turned 2! Of course, that didn't work out at all, and I ended up putting the thing back on out of frustration at 3 am after a week of no sleep. But then when Jared was about this age, he suddenly wanted to sleep in the huge queen-sized bed we'd just put in his room. And that was that.
Zach was very excited to have a "big boy bed" and told me to "take side off." He kept trying to get on it while I was still putting the screws in, and was very sad when I told him to get off. So when I told him it was ready for him to get in, he hopped in, covered himself with his blankie, and he stayed there! Jared was sweet and helped me convert the crib, then to tuck Zachy in.
I really didn't think he'd stay. But we talked about it a few times, and wow, for anyone who knows him very well, it's amazing that he did it. He did wake up about an hour later and discovered the baby gate at his door. I heard a scream and thought he'd fallen out of bed. When I got to him he was just standing at the gate and said, "Look Mommy, I stuck!"
But I stepped over the gate and he was suddenly okay (he hates being physically blocked from being near me--he doesn't care if he's half a mile away from me as long as he knows he can get back to me), I tucked him in again, and so far, we've got a champ!
