COURAGE
Today, Jared asked me what courage means. I told him that it's doing things you should do, even if you're afraid to do them. And I am so proud of the courage he showed today, because for some reason, he's been afraid of reading books.
He's been reading words for more than a year, but ask him to read a sentence, and it's NO WAY! And a whole book of sentences? I think not!

But today, we were at Kohl's and right as you walk in, there is a display of Dr. Seuss books and stuffed animals for $5 each. After our shopping, we had $5 left on our gift card. So of course, we bought a book.

It's Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? And tonight, Jared read the whole thing to me. It was especially cool because we'd never even heard of the book before, much less heard it read.
He obviously couldn't sound out "Mr." and needed help with "hippopotamus" and "butterfly" and "ought" and a handful of other words. He thought "noise" was "nose," and "dibble" was "dribble." But the words he knew instantly were impressive. "Brown" "boom" "horse," and the best of all, "whisper." How did he know that one?
I knew he could do it, and I'm so happy that he's discovered that for himself. He was so excited when he finished! We called to tell Grandpa Lancaster (sorry Grandma, Grandpa answered the phone first, and sorry, Nana & Babu, you were already in bed), and then Jared had to read the book again to Daddy when he got home from work.
We're so proud of him!

And then he moved on to ask us what an atomic bomb is--->what's radiation--->what's cancer--->what are cells? Then he concluded the evening by telling me that bacteria are stupid because they have no brains, and asking, "Can bacteria live in outer space?"
Anyone want to field those questions for us? Come on over, we could use a break.
