Amazing Discovery

If you haven't heard of www.last.fm, I'd like to introduce you. I couldn't find my ABBA cd, which, of course, I needed after watching Mamma Mia, so I had to turn to the web. And I found this little jewel.

I haven't figured it all out yet, but it appears to be a great way to listen to free music streaming from the web. You can't download it (except that they link you to iTunes or Amazon if you want to buy the song) but you can listen to all your favorite songs from their website.

Well, not all your favorite songs. After searching for some specific songs, I found some were missing.

But I spent the afternoon listening to Dave Matthews Band, The Thompson Twins, Erasure, Fine Young Cannibals, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, OMD, Tears for Fears, The Housemartins, and Yaz. I didn't make it to my other favorite genres yet. And I think I forgot to ad ABBA to my "library."

See, when you find a song you like, you can add it to your library. It saves your songs and you can go play them whenever you like. Another way to build a library is to pick a band you like (I did Erasure) and click "Listen to Erasure Radio." It plays lots of songs from similar bands. For Erasure, it pulled up Yaz and all sorts of other "synth pop" 80's bands.

It's awesome.

And just to make it that much cooler, my slow old computer can't run Windows Media Player and do anything else, really, but it has no trouble playing last.fm songs while I'm working in Photoshop!

If any of you are more experienced with the site, I'd love some tips on using it to the fullest. I'm hooked!

I haven't played with that one yet. But I have had a lot of fun making playlists on playlist.com and putting together stations on pandora.com.

There's just something about having music in the home, especially when you can control what it is.

Thanks for the tip. I love it and can't wait to make my own playlists.
