(In a van) Down by the River

The boys (all three of them) just had to show me the stretch of Green Belt they found. It's much closer to our house than our usual spots, and the boys discovered a new pasttime--throwing rocks!

There's a long winding path with lots of strange man-made things along the way to the river. This is Jared at the path entrance. This is a living tree that was somehow formed into an archway. The river really is beautiful, isn't it?The second we got to the water's edge, the boys began rooting around for any rocks they could find. There weren't many, as it was mostly sand there. But if you look real close, you can see both the boys' rocks in mid-air (and maybe there were three?)
Hiking to a better rock-throwing spot. I don't know what kind of bower or tunnel this is supposed to be! Fun nonetheless.

Now we're talkin'! There were lots of rocks here. This is actually an island of rock out in the middle of the river. Ryan and I had luckily worn water-appropriate footwear, because we had to wade to get there. Just a week earlier, the boys had all walked there on dry ground.
Zach wasn't interested in throwing pebbles. He went the the BIG rocks!

I surprised myself by managing to skip several rocks! I learned how forever ago, I think when we were visiting one of the Great Lakes, but haven't tried since. Ryan didn't get the hang of it for a while, but when he did, wow, he really got them far!

We all threw rocks until we ached, and then we really ached the next day!

Now I'm going to find out that throwing rocks in the river is prohibited, just like when we found the ill-placed signs that forbid feeding the ducks and geese at the Lagoon. We'd been there no less than 5 times before we saw the sign. Oops!
