Mother's Day "Tea"

I'm not sure why it's called a "Tea," but yesterday, we had a fun gathering with Jared's kindergarten class. They had the tables set with a place mat and other crafts they'd made for us.

The kids went up front and sang TWELVE songs to us! There were four "flag" songs, like American the Beautiful (two verses) and the Star Spangled Banner, and This Land is Your Land. I'd have to ask Jared what the other one was. Then there were some cute ones about eggs hatching and some tear-jerkingly adorable ones about loving their Mommies.

Then the kids lined up and got juice and cookies to serve their moms. Zach and I shared mine :)

Jared's teacher set up an incubator with hen eggs several weeks ago, and they were scheduled to hatch last Tuesday. But nothing happened! She thinks that the school must cut all power at night, so the incubator didn't keep the eggs warm all night or on weekends. Of course, the kids were bummed, so she bought some chicks. They live in a big pail in the corner of the classroom. Jared happily reported to me that there are two Rhode Island Reds, two "regular" chicks, and two black something or others (I can't remember, but he does).

So while we were there, Mrs. G encouraged everyone to hold the chicks and take pictures with them.

Here are some more pictures. I keep forgetting to link to our photos, so there are probably lots you haven't seen yet. I try to put captions so you know what you're looking at, so go take a look around!

That is such a neat thing. One of the great memories you will have as a mom.

I love those little functions...the kids are so proud to show off their classroom and what they've learn.
