Girl Power

I'm so outnumbered in this Testosterone Zone I call my home! Even our Betta fish is a male.

But now I have an ally.

Meet Zuka!

My friend, Mandy, is an animal lover. A few weeks ago, a neighbor told her of a family of cats she saw going in and out of a storage building across the street. Mandy trapped the mother and three boy kittens, but had a hard time catching the last kitten, a fluffy little Siamese-colored thing. Yet when she finally captured her, that kitten was the calmest and most personable.

We'd been considering getting a pet for our family. The fish just isn't cutting it as far as inspiring responsibility and respect for animals in our boys. So when Mandy asked if we wanted a kitten, we decided to go for it.

We went to visit Mandy in Oregon last week and brought the kitten home with us. While we were there, we visited the little kitten every day, but she was just tolerant of us. She meowed for a while in the car, but didn't howl the whole way like I was expecting.

Once we got her home, things changed. She's picked my shoulder as her favorite spot, and purrs almost non-stop when any of us are around. And can you believe that Luke is one of her favorite people, too? He grabs her ears, and even tried to stick her paw in his mouth, but she doesn't react at all to his misguided affection. It's interesting to see how gentle he is with her, too. When he's touching her, he pats softly. The moment she moves away, he resumes his usual "Bam-Bam" banging. It's really amazing and adorable.

Anyway, we're all in love with our new little fluff ball!

So we had a kitten for a few days and Brynlee LOVED it. She would push it around in a little stroller and carry it around. It was so cute! I like your little dark faced kitty, but she needs a pink or purple collar.

She's adorable! It looks like you might have a Himalayian mix :) How did you get the name Zuka?

Our cat Nancy has been so wonderful with Alex since he was born. She takes his patting her and pushing her down to the floor so he can pet her with patience. Although now she's started to mouth him in a (vain) attempt to make him stop. And yet after walking away she's back in 5 minutes for more abuse (I mean, loving...).

We had 2 cats that looked like that while I was growing up - Himilayans! They were always the best cats and so loveable.
Zuka looks beautiful!
Don't forget to get her to the vet pronto since she was a stray, especially with your little kids all over her:)

She is adorable! Love the blue eyes. Glad to hear that you have some female counterpart there now. :)
