After we got home from the grocery store this afternoon, the boys and I sort of went our separate ways. Jared went to the computer, I went to lay down (I made the mistake of waiting up for Ryan last night--he was just excited to be home before 3 a.m.--but barely!) and I heard Zach go in the back yard.
I heard Zach start to cry and figured he had an "owwie" and would come upstairs to get a kiss. But his cries never got closer. So I got up and peeked out the window.
Oh no!
He was dangling from the second monkey bar out, his feet 4 feet from the ground, and completely stuck. He often swings off the first monkey bar, where he can still swing back to the tower and get safely back to earth. But I have no idea how he got out to the second bar!
I ran to save my baby (Ryan actually thought I would have grabbed the camera! Okay, so that does sound like me, but not when possible injury is imminent). I was two seconds away from grabbing him when he couldn't hold on any longer and..... THUD. Seriously, I was inches away and could do nothing!
He landed on his bum, which still didn't look very comfortable. I scooped him up and he cried for a few minutes while I held him. I have to admit, I liked holding him. He didn't try to get down or tickle me or anything. He just let me hold him. And then he started talking/crying. I didn't really understand much, except I knew he was telling me that he was stuck and no one was there to help and then he fell and isn't life so unfair?
Zach is so tough. I really think the crying was about fear more than hurt. And I couldn't help but think that if I hadn't been so lazy and been lying in bed, I would have made it in time. I mean, I only had to get up 2 seconds earlier!
But no broken bones, no blood, and no more brown teeth. So it wasn't that big of a deal.
I bet he doesn't go out on the monkey bars again, though!

Don't beat yourself up, Susie. You weren't being lazy, you were tired and had a very good reason to be tired.
Big hugs to you...now go rest!
